Meaning of Safety, Ship Safety Introduction

Safety means "the state of being safe" or the condition of being protected against physical, occupational, emotional and other types of consequences of failure, damage, accidents or harm. It means protection of people or possessions in an event of accidental or harmful occurrence.

Safety can be seen in different perspectives. For Example home safety may indicate a building's ability to protect against external harm events (such as weather, home invasion, etc), or may indicate that its internal installations (such as appliances, stairs, etc) are safe (not dangerous or harmful) for its habitants.

Onboard a ship, safety involves protection of the ship and it's parts, the crew members and the marine environment against all hazards, harm, or damage that may occur onboard.
